What makes the 20th Anniversary Turbo TA so special is that it is a complete mechanical package, and not just some tape stripes.

V6 Turbo Trans Am Engine

Pontiac borrowed Buick's 3.8 litre (231cid) V6 turbo power plant from the fabled 1986-87 Grand National. Some difference exist between the TTA motor and the GN version. Different heads were necessary in order to squeeze the motor between the strut towers.

Specifications from the 1989 GM Turbo Trans Am Flyer :

ENGINE
3.8L SFI V6 High Output: 250 hp @ 4400 rpm, 340 lbs-ft torque @ 2800 rpm; electronic sequential fuel injection; tuned aluminium intake manifold; specific cylinder heads; roller valve lifters; cross-drilled crankshaft; Direct Fire Ignition with electronic spark control; Garrett T3 turbocharger with electronic wastegate control; streamlined tubular stainless steel exhaust manifolds and special high-efficiency intercooler.
TRANSMISSION
Specially calibrated 4-speed automatic, with performance-optimized shift points.
Note: According to GM information above the engine had roller valve lifters which is not the case on the production cars.
